Helen M. Smith, 82, of Utica and Kayuta Lake passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Helen was born in Utica on January 22, 1928 a daughter of Harry and Meta (Meirs) Steinhorst. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and the Utica School of Commerce. At St. Mary's Church, Utica on April 18, 1949 Helen married Robert G. Smith a blessed union of 47 years until his passing away on June 22, 1996. For 25 years until her retirement in 1991 Helen was employed with Business Services in Utica. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of The Rosary Church, New Hartford and St. Patrick's Church, Forestport, a member the Utica Maennerchor, a member and treasurer of the Old Bastards, Oriskany, VFW Post #982, American Legion Post #1448,Whitestown Veterans of WW II, Knights of St. John Ladies Aux., The Road Runners and the Singing Hills Senior Day Club. Helen is survived by three sons, Harry and Peg Smith, Frederick, MD, Brian and Michele Smith, Kayuta Lake, and Bill and Linda Smith, Kayuta Lake, seven grandchildren, Joseph Smith, Jason Smith and wife Shavon, Matt Smith and wife Kim, Ira Smith and wife Katie, Corey Smith, William R. Smith and Suzanne M. Smith, a great grandson, Brian Smith, a sister, Eleanor Kiefer, Whitesboro, a cousin, Joan Cecconi,New Hartford, dear friends, Sandy Gubbins, Deerfield, John and Janice Kratzert, Yorkville, Mike and Connie Schreppel, Yorkville, Linda Maring, Yorkville, and Joan Hamlin, Remsen and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Mrs. Smith's funeral will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N.Utica and at 11:00 from Our Lady of The Rosary Church, New Hartford. Burial will be in the St. Paul Episcopal Cemetery, Paris NY. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday morning from 8:30 - 10:15. Please omit flowers.
