Mrs. Julia S. Zalewski, 94, a resident of the St. Luke's Home, New Hartford, formerly of N. Utica passed away on Friday October 22, 2010 at the nursing home. Julia was born in NY Mills on December 25, 1915 the daughter of Martin and Sophia (Szczupak) Sobieraj and received her education in NY Mills Schools. On June 16, 1934 Julia married Theodore Zalewski. At one time Julia was employed with the Trackside Tavern and more recently with Killabrew Saloon retiring in 2008. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and a faithful parishioner of St. Mark's Church in N. Utica. Mrs. Zalewski is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Howard Crandall of Utica; 4 grandchildren, Michael Zalewski of N. Utica, Maria Hatch of Rochester, Kelly Tretschler of NC and Gabriel Kidwell of NV; 6 great grandchildren, Michael A. Zalewski, Christopher Basile, Colby Tretschler, Ashley Tretschler, Pamela Kidwell and Theodore Kidwell and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Theodore, Daughter Joan Flores, Grandson, Anthony Bruno, 3 sisters, Helen, Mary and Genevieve and 2 brothers, Martin and John. Mrs. Zalewski's funeral will be held on Monday October 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Church, 440 Keyes Rd., N. Utica. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus and Casimir Cemetery in Whitesboro. There are no calling hours. Mrs. Zalewski's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Clark North and Clark East at the St. Luke's Home for the kindness and compassion given to Julia.
