Obituary of Aaron M. Lavier

Sergeant Aaron M. Lavier, 32, died unexpectedly September 21, 2010 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Plainville, Connecticut. Aaron was born August 25, 1978 in New Hartford, NY. He was the son of William and Terry Lavier Sr. He attended Poland Central School and Notre Dame High School, where he played football and was a member of the NJROTC. He graduated in 1996 from Notre Dame. On November 28, 2007, he married Jacqueline Cerino in New Hartford, NY. On August 16, 2008, Aaron and Jackie renewed their vows at Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills, NY. Aaron had great passion to be a United States Marine and serve his country. After graduating from Notre Dame he entered basic training, graduated from Paris Island, SC, and completed basic mortarman training at School of Infantry (SOI) East Coast. He was then stationed at Camp Lejune, NC, where he was assigned to 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines as a mortarman with Fox Company. After completing two deployments, he returned to SOI as an instructor in basic infantry skills. He was then reassigned to 2nd Battalion 4th Marines Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as mortarman section leader for Fox Company and deployed twice more overseas. In July 2010, he was transferred to 1st Battalion 25th Marines Charlie Company in Plainville, CT, where he served on the Instructor and Inspector Staff. His military awards include; Humanitarian Service Medal, Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal, Meritorious Mast, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, NATO Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his sister Desiree Clemons, Poland, brothers, Master Sergeant William and Karen Lavier II, Barneveld, Philip and Melanie Lavier, Schuyler, father-in-law, Yorkville Police Chief Retired John Cerino, Yorkville, sister and brother-in-law, Elisa and Nicholas Palczak, Boonville, nephew and godson, Mark Clemons Jr., Poland, nieces, Olivia Clemons, Poland, Cheyenne Petrillo-Lavier and Aliya Lavier, Barneveld, and grandmother-in-law, Lillian Soja, Yorkville. He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, William and Leona Lavier, maternal grandparents, Alexander and Lila Zalewski and mother-in-law Leontine (Teena) Cerino. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles cousins and many close friends. He is also survived by his canine companion, Kali, who was his buddy. Aaron's love for motorcycles encouraged him to attend and graduate from the American Motorcycle Institute in Daytona, Florida. He spent many enjoyable hours riding his motorcycle with his biking buddies. Those who know Aaron remember his bright smile which lit up the room, his zest for life and how he loved to make those around him laugh. He took pleasure in the simple things in life and lived each day with passion and love in his heart. Calling hours for Sergeant Lavier will be held at Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd, North Utica on Sunday from 4-8pm. A full military funeral will begin at the Funeral Home Monday at 9:00am, followed by a 10:00am service at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa in New York Mills. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus and Casimir Cemetery, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a scholarship fund at Notre Dame NJROTC in memory of Aaron.
