Obituary of Marilyn A. Kain

Marilyn Snyder Kain, 85, (39 forever) of New Hartford, NY passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2010 and is in the arms of her beloved husband Terrence and Jesus. Marilyn, or Nannie to her grandchildren, was born in Utica, the daughter of Lawrence and Gertrude Bush Snyder. She married Terrence Steven Kain at Blessed Sacrament Church on February 8, 1947. Terrence passed away on January 1, 2007. Together they had 7 children, 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, all whom she cherished and lit up her life. Marilyn was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Administrator at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center until her retirement in 1986. Previous to that, she worked at Faxton Hospital on the maternity unit. Marilyn was an avid bowler for many years. She bowled on the women's league at the Sunset Bowling Center and she was instrumental in creating a bowling team for special needs male adults, which was integrated into the Pin-O-Rama men's league. She was a fan of the Yankees and Boston Celtics She also loved doing the crossword puzzle every morning and getting scratch off lottery tickets. Marilyn was a loving, generous mother, always there for her family. She loved the time she spent with them. She enjoyed many fun times around the pool with her children and grandchildren.. She was especially fond of special occasions, especially Christmas, which was her favorite time of the year. She will always be remembered most for her unconditional love and devotion to family. She is survived her children: Linda and Robert Mackos of Yorkville; NY; Timothy and Laura Kain of Barneveld, NY; Christopher and Judy Kain of Bolivia N.C; Colleen and Norman Martin of New Hartford, NY; Patrick and Christine Kain of Leesburg, VA; Edward and Mary Kain of New York Mills, NY; and her beloved son, Steven who lived with her at home. "Nannie" is survived by grand children and spouses: Colleen Waters, Jennifer Boehlert, Shana Gallagher, Alison Mackos, Heather Riddough, Lori Kain, Sally Kain, Chelsea Martin, Erin Kain, Courtney Kain, Ryan Kain, Alissa Kain, Shauna Kain, Ciara Kain, Ashley Kain, Christopher Kain, and Michael Kain. 10 Great Grandchildren: Kira Waters, Kyle Waters, Kayla Waters, Karli Waters, Cory Mackos, Alexandra Boehlert, Kendra Lord-Mackos, Meghan Gallagher, Kain Riddough, and Cole Riddough. 2 Great Great Grandchildren: Issac and Isabella Waters. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who were very near to her heart. Marilyn is predeceased by her sisters, Jane Heiland and Theresa Coman and her brother, Robert Snyder. Marilyn and her family were blessed with two special angels, Yvonne and Betty who took care of Mom during her illness. They were beyond caretakers. They cared for Mom with the love and tenderness as if she was one of their own family members. Mrs. Kain's funeral will be held Monday, September 20, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church in Utica where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica on Sunday afternoon from 2 - 5 pm. Those wishing may donate to the New York Mills Volunteer Fire Department in Marilyn's memory.
