Obituary of John C. Macner

John C. Macner, 89, a resident of the Masonic Care Community, formerly of Whitesboro, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the home with his children at his side. John was born in Utica on January 31, 1921, the son of John and Anelia "Nellie" (Wawrzynkewicz) Macner. He was raised and educated in Whitesboro, graduating from Whitesboro High School. John went on to serve his country with the Army Air Force, during World War II. On October 20, 1943, John married Helen Macner in Holy Trinity Church, Utica. Mrs. Macner passed away in 2008. He was employed with AT&T Telephone Company, until his retirement in 1982. John and Helen were charter members of St. Anne's Church, in Whitesboro. He was a member of the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376; of the Pioneer's Club; of the Whitesboro High School Alumni Association; and a current member of St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. John was an avid golfer and enjoyed painting. A proud accomplishment of John's was that he built his family home in Whitesboro. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Denise Macner Christ and her husband, Bud, of Clinton; two sons and daughters-in-law, John C. Macner Jr. and his wife, Anne, of Greensboro, NC, and Thomas C. Macner and his wife, Alice, of Huntington Station, NY; Six grandchildren, Randy Christ and his fiancée, Sheena Barry, of Kirkville, NY, Russ and Emily Christ, of Phoenix, AZ, Ryan and Nicole Christ, of Denver, CO, Colleen Macner, of Brookline, MA, Elizabeth and Jeremy Etzkorn, of Tampa, FL, Marisa Macner, Brooklyn, NY; five cherished great grandchildren, Alex, Charlie, Trevor, Finnegan, and Addie. Also surviving is a special friend from the Masonic Home, Georgiana Vooris. He was predeceased by his sister, Jeannette Macner, and two brothers, Henry and Edward Macner. Mr. Macner's Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 9:30 am at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitesboro. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton, Thursday evening, TONIGHT, from 4 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to the Masonic Care Community in John's memory. The family extends their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Masonic Care Community for the care and kindness shown to both John and his family during his stay.
