Obituary of Hazel V. Broedel

Mrs. Hazel V. Broedel, 85, a resident of the Martin Luther Home in Clinton, formerly of Utica and Canastota passed away Monday September 13, 2010 at the nursing home. Hazel was born in Thendara, NY on August 19, 1925 the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Serviss) McKenna. She received her primary education in Thendara and Old Forge and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On June 16, 1951 Hazel married Milton O. Broedel at St. Francis de Sales Church in Utica a devoted union of 40 years until Milton's death in 1991. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who loved to care for her family especially her beloved grandchildren. Hazel also enjoyed cooking, collecting dolls and was a parishioner of the former St. Francis de Sales church. Mrs. Broedel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" and Clinton Carter of Canastota, NY; son and daughter-in-law, Milton J. and Susan Broedel of New Hartford; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and JoAnn McKenna of Zephyrhills, FL; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 3 nephews. Also surviving are Kathie Bishop and her husband Ron Burris of Rome; She was predeceased by a daughter Dawn Zoeckler in 1998. Mrs. Broedel's funeral will be held on Friday September 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica with Pastor Rob Mackay officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Thursday from 6:00-9:00 pm.
