Carol G. McCarthy, 72, of Utica, passed away Thursday September 2, 2010 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Carol was born in Utica on July 17, 1938, the daughter of Charles and Betty (McGuirl) Mulchy. She received her education in the Utica Schools and was a graduate of St. Francis deSales High School. On February 23, 1957 at St. Francis deSales Church, Utica, Carol married John B. (Jack) McCarthy, a blessed union of 53 years. At one time Carol was employed at the New York Telephone Company. She was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica until its closing and currently is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. She was also a member of the Mohawk Valley Mother of Twins. Carol always enjoyed spending summers at the family camp on Kayuta Lake. Carol is survived by her husband, Jack; her seven children: Mary and Dennis Cahill, Deerfield, Dennis and Denise McCarthy, Norwich, NY, Clare and Kyle Burth, New Hartford, Bridget and Robert Korrie, Deerfield, Michael and Kristina McCarthy, Liverpool, NY, Patricia and David Hauser, Williamson, NY, and Kathleen and James Potter, Rochester, NY; eleven grandchildren: Maren, Sean, Brett, Devin, Colleen, Sara, Jack, Shannon, Erin, Evin, and Maura; a sister, Kathleen Mulcahy, Bolton Landing, NY; three brothers and two sisters-in law: Michael Gossin, IL, Edward (Bud) and Mary Mulchy, Alexandria Bay, NY, and Timothy and Mary Mulchy, Altamont, NY; a favorite uncle and aunt Michael and Carol McGuirl, Utica; a sister-in-law, Francine Mulchy, Marcy; in-laws: Edward McCarthy, Utica, Katherine Lupia, Rochester, and JoAnn Ritchie, Syracuse; many nieces, nephews and her canine pal, Anny. Carol was predeceased by her brother Thomas Mulchy, a sister-in-law, Jean McCarthy, and two brothers-in-law: Dominik Lupia and Harry Ritchie. Mrs. McCarthy's funeral will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 9:00 am from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd. N. Utica are Friday (today) from 4 -7. Those so wishing may make donations to the Humane Society or their favorite charity in Carol's memory. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. William Jorgensen, Sally O'Callaghan, and to the nurses and staff on 3C of St. Elizabeth's Hospital for all the loving care they gave to Carol.
