Mrs. Thelma T. Hickernell, 82, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, New Hartford, formerly of Central Square, NY passed away on Friday August 6, 2010 at the nursing home with her loving family by her side. Thelma was born in Utica on July 2, 1928 the daughter of James and Alma (Salem) Tanury. She was a graduate of Whitesboro High School and later earned her associates degree from Mohawk Valley Community College. In 1962 Thelma married James Hickernell in Pennsylvania. For 46 years, she was employed as a financial advisor with IDS-American Express in Syracuse, NY retiring in 1997. Thelma was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero, NY and truly loved her canine companions. Mrs. Hickernell is survived by two brothers, Assad Tanury of Yorkville and James Tanury of Bloomfield Hills, MI; a brother-in-law, William Przylucki of Clinton; a loving and devoted niece, Beth Guzski and her husband Steven of New Hartford and dear lifelong friends the O'Rourke family from Syracuse. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband James, a sister, Suzanne Przylucki and two sisters-in-law, Mary Tanury and Irene Tanury. A graveside service for Thelma will be offered on Monday August 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Indian River Cemetery in Clinton, CT. There are no calling hours.
