Obituary of Rose M. Ruch
Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beloved Rose entered eternal life on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, with her loving family by her side at the Presbyterian Home. As the gates of heaven opened the angels were dancing for the joyous reunion Rose had with her only son, PFC Francis William Ruch II, USMC, killed in action in Vietnam in 1966. She was also reunited with her husband Francis, parents Arthur and Eva (Gauthier) Landurant, her brothers Leo, Arthur, and Albert (& Rose) Landurant, and her sister Marge (Sue) Roach. Rose was born June 21, 1916, in Fall River, MA. As a young girl, she moved to Utica with her family where she was raised and educated. On August 18, 1945, she married Francis W. Ruch, a loving union of 25 years. For many years, Rose managed the candy counter at Woolworth's until her retirement in 1966. Rose had an incredibly strong faith and was a life-long member of St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church. She was a charter member and one of the proud founders of the Gold Star Mothers of Utica. She was also a member of the West Side Senior Center and the Genesee Street Seniors. An avid bingo player and NY Mets fan, she loved doing work searches, catching a golf game on TV, and of course, checking out good-looking men. Rose's family will miss her spitfire ways and her "tell you how it is" attitude. Rose is survived by her loving family: Joseph Roach Sr., Mary and son Stephen Handzel, Joseph Jr. and daughter Chelsee Roach, John and Kathleen, and son John Richard Fava, and her godson, Keith Wagner, who was like a son, and his wife Ann, their children Melissa, Kristen, and Keith II. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. William Hall for his compassionate care for Rose over the years and to the entire Presbyterian Community for their care and kindness given to Rose throughout her stay. Calling hours are Sunday evening from 4-7 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph & St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Presbyterian Community. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. "One of the best things about Heaven is that we will be able to reunite with loved ones who have already passed on. It will be the greatest family reunion we've ever known, with our loved ones, relatives and ancestors all together in one place at the same time, rejoicing. All together at last!" RIP Aunt Rose
