Obituary of John T. Hannigan

Mr. John T. Hannigan, age 84 passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010. He was born on December 1, 1925 in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of Thomas and Mabel (Lynch) Hannigan. In 1944, John was drafted to the United States Navy and served during World War II. He was stationed in the Atlantic and Pacific and served aboard the U.S.S. Haverfield and U.S.S. Trippe. On August 18, 1951, John was united in marriage to Carol Lillian Young at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hamden, Connecticut. For many years, John worked for O.W. Hubbell & Sons in Utica, NY as an accountant until his retirement in 1997. John was a faithful member and devoted volunteer of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Utica, NY. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, being a Yankees fan and most of all spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Carol Hannigan of Madison; seven children, Charlotte Hannigan of Florida, Mary (Fred) Stewart of New York, Thomas (Lorri) Hannigan of New York, Joseph (Cheryl) Hannigan of Massachusetts, Peter (Peggy) Hannigan of New York, Catherine (Andy) Galtieri of Tennessee and Eileen (Christopher Dolan) Hannigan of Madison; nine grandchildren, Pam, Heather, Christina, Lauren, Andrew, Brian, Allison, Thomas and Holly, five great grandchildren; two sisters, Sister Melaine Hannigan of Connecticut and Ruth Broadhead of North Carolina; and a brother, Thomas Hannigan of Connecticut. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Mr. Hannigan's funeral will be held on Saturday August 7, 2010 at 8:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 9:00 at St. Mark's Church, 440 Keyes Rd., Utica where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Entombment with military honors to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice Care for all their guidance and comfort given to John and our family.
