Mr. John Punzi, 66 of Deerfield passed away on Sunday July 25, 2010 in the comfort of his home with his loved ones by his side. John was born in Utica on July 29, 1943 the son of Joseph and Pauline (Zito) Punzi and was educated in Utica and Canastota schools. John honorably served in the United State Marine Corps where he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, the Philippines and Japan. John was employed with Paddock Pool Company, later as a truck driver with Associated Transport and a Constable with the Town of Deerfield and most recently as a guard and courier with Loomis Armored Car Service until his retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Deerfield, American Legion Utica Post 229 and its Color Guard, the Marine Corps League in Herkimer, Deerfield Fish and Game Club, the Democratic Club and was a former member of American Legion Post 169 in Oneida. John enjoyed golfing, was a motorcycle enthusiast and was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Punzi is survived by his loving companion, Elizabeth "Betty" Long of Deerfield; a sister Luisa Stafford of Frisco, CO; two nephews, Michael Stafford of McFarland, WI and Mark Stafford and his wife Jenny of Colorado Springs, CO as well as grand nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Betty's Children, Karen Gallery and her husband Lawrence and their children, Laura and Paul of Niskayuna, NY and Keith Long of India and his sons, Christopher and David of GA. He also leaves many relatives in Canastota, NY. Services are being held at the convenience of his family.
