Mrs.Cathy Jo Yourdon, 64, of Deerfield, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Siegenthaler Center in New Hartford, with her loving family by her side. Cathy was born in Norwich, NY on June 17, 1953, the daughter of Gerald Bush and Marlene Davis. In Utica, on December 28, 1974, Cathy was united in marriage with Gary A. Yourdon. Cathy was Past President of the Deerfield Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Oneida County Ladies Fire Auxiliary. She had a passion for scouting which was evident in her many activities with the Deerfield Boy Scouts Pack 59 and Troup 59. Cathy was responsible for the formation of the annual Troup 59 Mother’s Day Breakfast. Her organization was evident in her planning and feeding the huge number of Scouts and Scouters at two Camporee events, “Hometown Heroes” and “E911 Awareness”, and at one time serving nearly 900 Scouts and Scouters to a complete Pig-Roast dinner in less than one hour. A leader for two Pack 59 Cub Scout dens, she enjoyed sharing her love for arts and crafts and working with children. Cathy was proud of the annual Halloween Party and Deerfield Community Haunted House which she was involved in from its creation to its growth through the years. She especially enjoyed creating new scenes, costumes and playing characters during the event. Cathy loved camping, fishing and boating on the St. Lawrence River, with her family and friends. She derived much pleasure in cooking for family celebrations and get-togethers, holidays and spur-of-the-moment times as well as Community Scouting events. A special thank you to Joey for your abundance of help during these events. We all know who made what the best, don’t we Joey? Most important was her love for family and how nobody would leave the house until she said “be careful”. She was a Mom and Grandmother but also your best friend especially when you need her most. Cathy created beautiful memories for her children which they will cherish forever, like the painting she did of an old barn adjacent to the property, which her oldest son at the age of four, said was really “cool”, and the beautiful dolls she used to make as well as her numerous ceramic holiday decorations. Along with her love for family, was her love for her Great Danes; Wolfie, Schultz & Dooley. Cathy is survived by her beloved husband, Gary; one daughter, Tia Lock, of Utica; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jason and Celena Yourdon, of Saratoga Springs, Justin Yourdon, of Deerfield, Patrick Yourdon and his fiancé Malerie Meredith, of Utica and Kevin and Maeve Yourdon, of Deerfield; 12 cherished grandchildren, Ryan Lockwood, Kiaya Lockwood, Brittany Lockwood, Brady Lockwood, Yten Lock, Finley Yourdon, Cambry Yourdon, Scotty Yourdon, Aibrey Yourdon, Sanyia Malloy, Mattais Malloy and Ashary Malloy; two sisters, Patty and Shannon as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to invite friends and their families to a Celebration of Cathy’s Life on Friday June 1, 2018, commencing at 5 pm in the Bruce “Spike” Yourdon Firefighters Memorial Hall at the Deerfield Fire Department on Trenton Rd. in Deerfield. A brief Memorial Remembrance Ceremony lead by Deerfield Fire Department Chaplain, Richard Prusko will be at 5:45 pm. Our intention is to remember Cathy as she wished with all the good times shared with her family and friends. Please feel free to leave the frowns at the door and bring your smiles, stories and anecdotes inside to share over light refreshments. Thank you for touching and being a part of Cathy’s life. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our “Angel” Karen, who seemingly came out of nowhere to take charge and provide much needed abundance of skillful and competent help to expedite our goal of bringing Cathy home, so all of the family could spend their time with her.
