Obituary of Harry E. O'Connor

Harry E. O'Connor, 87, of Deerfield, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Abraham House in Utica. Harry was born in Oriskany Falls on September 8, 1922 the son of Harry C. and Lena M. (Burth) O'Connor. He was a 1941 graduate of Utica Catholic Academy and after the war attended the Brooklyn School of Optics. Harry joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served with the 456th Bomb Group. Then from 1945 to 1948 served in the Army Reserve. On June 19, 1948 in Scarsdale, NY, Harry married Mary Lou Schindler. For 35 years until his retirement in 1986 he was employed with the General Electric Co. He was a parishioner of Historic Old St. John's Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #189, past trustee and member of the Utica Maennerchor, a member of the American Legion Post #229, Deerfield Democratic Club, North Utica Seniors and the 456th Bomb Group. Harry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou, a brother-in-law, Francis Schindler, MD, two nephews and spouse, Francis and Betsy Schindler, Jr., MD, and John and Diane Schindler, NYC, a niece and spouse, Mary and Bob Zilg, NYC, and many cherished friends and co-workers. Harry was predeceased by a sister, Rosemary Uvanni and a brother-in-law, Henry Schindler. Mr. O'Connor's funeral will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 10:00 from Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4-7. Those so wishing may make donations to the Abraham House in Harry's memory. Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home Friday evening at 6:30.
