Marlene A. Scicchitano, 78, of Deerfield passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the St. Luke's Home, New Hartford. Marlene was born in Syracuse a daughter of Michael J. and Anna (Hoffman) LoBello. She graduated from Syracuse Central High School and the Central City Business Institute, Syracuse. At Our Lady of Pompeii Church, Syracuse Marlene married Salvatore (Sam) Scicchitano a blessed union of 55 years until his passing away on July 30, 2009. Their marriage was characteristic of their era and revolved in their love for each and wonderful and proud family life. For 25 years until her retirement in 1997 she was employed with Baker Greenhouses Inc. While employed she was also very active in the CNY Human Resources Managers Society, where she at times served on the Scholarship Committee. Marlene was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church since 1960, a past president of the St. Peter's Mothers Guild, past president of the Altar Rosary Society, served on the Parish Council and the committee for St. Peter's Centennial Celebration in 1972, and was an active member of the St. Peter's Funeral Ministry and the St. Peter's Focus Group. She was a member of Alethean Jr. Alumnae Sorority, Syracuse, Utica Catholic Academy and Notre Dame High School Parents Associations; North Utica Women's Civic Club; Ladies Auxiliary of the Utica Maennerchor and served as treasurer for 11 years; Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #229; AARP; Deerfield Historical Society; Oneida County Historical Society; North Utica Senior Center; CNY Alzheimer's Association; Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc., with certification as a tutor of "English as a Second Language"; Deerfield Senior Citizens, where for many years she and her husband, Sam, enjoyed many trips; CNY Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, receiving the 1978 Volunteers Outstanding Contribution Award; Slocum-Dickson Medical Group Employer's Advisory Board; and the San Souci Sorority of Utica. Marlene is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine Anne and G. Heyward Preacher, MD, and Judith Scicchitano, MA, her two grandchildren who were the supreme joy of her life and constant companions, Patrick Joseph and Alexandra Marie Fraccola, Frankfort; a son-in-law, Patrick N. Fraccola, Frankfort; her sister and very best friend, Sharon Jean "Sissie" and husband Robert Polsin, North Syracuse; and a beloved and very dear brother, Joseph M. LoBello and wife Linda, North Syracuse. Marlene leaves her very special nieces and nephews, whom she absolutely adored, Michelle Polsin, N. Syracuse, Kristin Delves, Rochester, Kevin Polsin, GA, Robert Polsin, Cazenovia, Michael Polsin, PA, Joseph Polsin, NJ, and Scott Carroll, Madrid, Spain; godchildren, Kevin Polsin, Scott Carroll, Kelly Welton, Chester Bachorski and John Ross; in-laws, Vincent and Dorothy Scicchitano, Baldwinsville; and very dear and loving friends, Karen and Jan Barendse and their family, Patti and Al Dewey, Rose Bucciero, Nan Panaro, and Antoinette Rappa. Marlene was predeceased by her "Baby Angel" daughter Mary Elizabeth Fraccola in 2008 and a niece Maria Polsin Taylor, who's memory she treasured in her heart, ever since her passing. Mrs. Scicchitano's funeral will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 10:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 11:00 from St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4-7. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department or the Healthcare Friends Network. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. Roger Breslow and his staff for years of caring and concern especially Christine and Si and the staff of Clark North of the St, Luke's Home for all their loving care.
