Mr. George J. Deno, 79 of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday June 16, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. George was born in Ogdensburg, NY on November 17, 1930 the son of George J. and Josephine Deno and received his education in Ogdensburg schools. He later earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. George honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. On June 30, 1956 he married Barbara Jean Pribble at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. For 35 years until his retirement, George was employed as an Electrical Engineer Specialist with General Electric Company. In his early years, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed flying model airplanes. George enjoyed gardening, was an antique car enthusiast, avid coin collector and belonged to the Rome Coin Club and Mohawk Valley Coin Club. He was also a member of the Utica Maennerchor and a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica. Mr. Deno is survived by his wife Barbara; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Donna Deno of Marcy and Tom and Cheryl Deno of Whitesboro; 4 grandchildren Andrew Deno of Utica, Katherine O'Neil of Syracuse, Jennifer Deno, of NY Mills and Matthew Deno of Utica; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Daboze and Dorothy Byma. Mr. Deno's funeral will be held on Saturday June 19, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. from the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 9:30 at St. Peter's Church where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a committal service on Saturday June 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ogdensburg, NY. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
