Mrs. Barbara Joan Peters of Utica passed away on Friday May 21, 2010 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse after a lengthy Illness. Barbara was the eldest of two daughters born May 8, 1938 to Clark and Frances (Turrell) Harris of Marietta, OH. After her marriage to Gerald Peters on October 13, 1957 the couple made their home in Utica so Barbara could pursue a career in Medical Technology at Faxton Hospital. She continued in this field until retiring from Centrex Laboratories in 2000 after 42 years of dedicated service. Barbara was an accomplished competition muzzle loader and enjoyed spending summers at Waterson Park on the St. Lawrence River. Mrs. Peters is survived by her beloved husband Gerald; one daughter, Julia Alston of Springfield, OH, a devoted sister, Judith Webster of Marietta, OH and two nephews, Jonathan Webster and Steven Webster both Marietta, OH. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life on Tuesday May 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Burial in Paris Hill Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial calling hours are Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 prior to the service. Mrs. Peters' family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Pines of Utica Nursing Home for the loving care and compassion they gave to Barbara. A special thank you to the Utica Fire Department and many neighbors who came to Barbara's aide in her time of need. Your kindness will always be remembered.
