Please share a memory of Judith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Judith Farr Fero (née Newton), 75, of Utica, NY passed away on May 18, 2018 in Clinton, NY. Judy was the second of three children born to Ernest and Genevieve Newton on April 17, 1943 in Utica, NY. She attended Utica Free Academy and graduated in 1961. Judy married Charles “Skip” Fero on March 18, 1967. After early work at Prudential Insurance in Utica, Judy worked at Colgate University as a secretary in the music department. Most of her working life was spent at Price Chopper in New Hartford, where she worked as a front-end manager and later as a price accuracy coordinator. Judy was a conscientious worker with a strong work ethic, and she held all to high standards. She was also a mentor and friend to many young men and women who held their first jobs at this supermarket. Judy was known to her family as “Wonderful Aunt Judy” or “WAJ” for short, and was incredibly devoted to her family, including six nieces and nephews, and ten great-nieces and nephews. More than just an aunt, to her family Judy was a babysitter, problem-solver, encourager, exquisite listener, counselor, confidante, and fun friend. She was the keeper of the family photo albums and never missed a birthday, anniversary, or holiday, often creating personalized cards on her computer filled with humor and love to send to family members. She was an avid reader and a champ at the NY Times crossword puzzle. For many years, the family enjoyed a summer vacation on Cape Cod, which Judy helped to plan and coordinate. These trips were a highlight of the year for the family, and WAJ looked forward to family dinners, miniature golf outings, and nightly ice cream cones. In no small part thanks to Judy’s quick wit, the family shared countless laughs over many years together at the Cape. She also made sure that those who married into our family felt welcome and initiated into family traditions like the 4th of July Sparkler Parade. Her love was unconditional and genuine. Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Skip” Fero (1973); her parents Ernest and Genevieve Newton; and her sister and brother-in-law, Gail (Newton) and Ralph Wittman. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Penny (Newton) and E. Larry Burlingame of Tobyhanna, PA; niece/nephew Amy Burlingame & Steve Stevenson and great-nephew Luke of Wethersfield, CT; niece/nephew Erin (Burlingame) & Rob Bolstad and great-nieces Isabella and Eva of Madison, NJ; niece/nephew Kelly (Wittman) & Tom Latus of Barneveld, NY; great-nephew Matthew Latus and his fiancée, Morgan Orlandi, of Boston, MA; great-niece/nephew Jamie (Latus) & JD Arrante and great-great niece Genevieve of New Hartford, NY; niece/nephew Tracy (Wittman) & Michael Dewoody and great-niece Abigail and great-nephew Ben of Longview, TX; nephew/niece Eric & Renon Wittman and great-nephews Walker and Will, and great-niece Sarah of Arvada, CO; nephew/niece Christopher & Shelley Wittman of Utica, NY. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the devoted staff on the Applewood Unit at Lutheran Home in Clinton, NY for the compassionate care and love they lavished on Judy in her final home.
