Mr. John (Jack) M. Dolan, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passes away Monday May 3, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford with his loving family by his side. John was born in Utica on October 16, 1926, the son of John W. and Mary E. (Daly) Dolan. He was raised locally and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On May 1, 1948 John was married to Beverly A. Meeker at Sacred Heart Church in Utica, a blessed union of 62 years. John proudly served in the US Marine Corps, VMR 153, MAG 25, 1st Marine Airwing from 1944-1946 in the South Pacific, Boganville and the Philippines. For 18 years he was employed with the New York Central Railroad and later with Griffiss Air Force Base retiring in 1987. He continued his career with the Federal Reserve Bank until 1993 when he began working with Alfred Publishing until his retirement. John was a member of St. Peter's Church, N. Utica, Knights of Columbus Utica Council 189, American Legion Post 1376 in New Hartford, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Marine Corps League of Ilion, N. Utica Seniors and the Deerfield Democratic Club. Mr. Dolan is survived by his darling bride, Beverly; two daughters and one son-in-law, Maureen Dolan Scialdo of Ilion and Michele and Art Halpin of Barneveld; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Dolan of Barneveld; His cherished grandchildren, John Scialdo and his wife Samantha, Heather Scialdo, Jacklyn Eck and her husband John, Eric Coriale and his wife Jennifer, Laura Dolan and Chase and Sarah Dolan and her fiancée Wayne; three beloved great grandchildren, Logan and Leah Eck and Piper Scialdo; a brother, Thomas Dolan of Long Island and several nieces and nephews from Long Island. Mr. Dolan's funeral will be held on Thursday May 6, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. from the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 10:00 at St. Peter's Church where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in N. Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Those wishing, may make a donation to the Mother Marianne soup kitchen at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Utica or the Herkimer Humane Society in John's memory. Mr. Dolan's family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Thomas John and his office Staff and the staff of the emergency department at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare for the care and compassion given to John and his family. Our heartfelt gratitude to John's caregivers, Mary, Wendy, Barb and Shirley for the loving care you provided to John. Your compassion and kindness will not be forgotten. John will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He will be missed, but never forgotten
