Obituary of Raymond E. Kistowski

Raymond E. Kistowski, 93, a resident of St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Utica, formerly of Marcy, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 23, 2010 at the home. Ray was born October 25, 1916 in Detroit, MI, the son of Frank and Laura (Kowat) Kistowski. He was raised and educated in Buffalo, NY, graduating high school. Ray joined the US Army, serving during World War II from April 25, 1941 with the 34th CA Brigade, until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1945. He then attended the University of the State of NY, graduating in 1949. On October 22, 1949, Ray married Angela Trunfio and shared a union of 60 years. He was employed with Chicago Pneumatic for thirty years. Ray was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Peter's Church in North Utica for over 50 years. Ray's greatest pleasures were his time with his family, serving in the Army, and puttering in his garden. Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Angela, Marcy; his daughter, Karen Brisson, Utica; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas Kistowski and his wife, Ngo Thi My Nga, Viet Nam, Andrew and Cynthia Kistowski, Marcy; five grandchildren, Daniel and his wife, Kimberly Brisson, Jessica Brisson, Lindsey and Erika Kistowski and five great grandchildren, Alexa, Devin, Vaughn, Cole, and Kylie. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Jenne Blaszkiewicz, Detroit, MI; sisters-in-law, Frances Craska, Ilion, Nancy and her husband, Gene Greco, Marcy, Sara Trunfio, Marcy; brother-in-law, Michael and his wife, Mary Ann Trunfio. Ray is predeceased by three sisters and one brother. Mr. Kistowski's funeral will be held Monday, April 26, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church, North Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica, Monday morning from 8:30 - 9:30 am, prior to the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Ray's memory. The family wishes to express their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the Carmelite Sisters of St. Joseph's Nursing Home, as well as the nurses and staff for the care and compassion shown to Ray and his family during his stay. Also, a special thanks to the Maynard Fire Department for their help in times of need, and finally to Ray and Angela's neighbors in Marcy for their concern and many kindnesses through the years.
