Mary-Judith Giruzzi, 56, of Marcy, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018, in her home with her loving family by her side. Judi was born in Utica on September 30, 1961, the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Rosemary A. (Spohn) Rowlands. She was a 1980 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and 1981 graduate of Utica Career Institute Cosmetology School. She later attended MVCC for general studies. At St. Peter’s Church, North Utica, on June 5, 1987, Judi was united in marriage to her high school sweet heart and love of her life, Mark J. Giruzzi, Sr. For nearly 30-years she was a devoted employee of the CNY DDSO for the Eastern Oneida County. She was a very religious and spiritual person, she found peace and comfort in her beliefs. Judi was a die-hard Yankee fan, who loved Derek Jeter, she was arguably his greatest fan. Judi was a very strong person, who never questioned why! She loved taking care of people and never once put her illness before her family. She was a devoted wife, adoring mother of her two children, an amazing sister and loyal friend; she was the glue that held her family and friends together through the good times and bad. There was not a place that Judi went that she did not make a new friend, she felt blessed by the love and support of her large family, friends, and neighbors. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking for everyone, attending her children’s sporting events and vacationing in Maine, this was her happy place. Judi was well-known for her green thumb, her exception talent in gardening, growing, and arranging flowers. Judi was the light in every room whether it be from her loving personality, her taste in fashion, or her beautiful red hair. Judi is survived by her beloved husband, Mark, her two children that she cherished, Arianna L. (Giruzzi) Lupo and husband, Daniel, of North Utica and Mark J. Giruzzi, Jr., of Marcy, her prized companion and most loyal gift, her chocolate lab, Reilly Brown Giruzzi, brothers and sisters, Joseph Rowlands and wife, Deborah, of Steuben, NY, John Rowlands, of Floyd, Marianne Borzendowski and husband, Stanley, of Floyd, Mary-Lynn Hanus and husband, Larry, of Camroden, in-laws, Fran Giruzzi, of Utica, Joseph Giruzzi and wife, Mary, of Lowville, James Giruzzi and wife, Denise, of Frankfort and Adele Reilly, of Utica, Cynthia and James (Giruzzi) Cahill, of Albany, MaryRose and Darryl (Giruzzi) Green, of Georgia, a special cousin, Denise Rowlands, of Utica, and her dearest friends, Kim (Roberts) Crawford, of North Utica, and Debbie (Kauth) Guido, of Whitesboro. She is also survived by many treasured nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging Danielle O’Connor, several great nieces, great nephews, and her grandpuppy, Cappuccino. Judi was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Maribeth (Rowlands) Bougourd and in-laws, Helen and Frank (Reilly) Giruzzi, Betty Giruzzi, Dennis Reilly, Joanne (Reilly) Adorino and James Reilly. Judi also felt great joy in the union of her family with the Lupo-McConologue family. The family will like to extend a heartfelt thanks to her devoted Nurse Practitioner, Sandra Gaetano, Hospice of Utica, Dr. Sheila Lemke and the staffs of the Oncology and Radiology Departments of Upstate Hospital, and a very special thank you to Dr. Ajeet Gajra for all of his kind support and true compassion. He made each of the days she received treatments easier by keeping her spirits high and even after he was no longer treating her, he stayed in close contact. Mrs. Giruzzi’s funeral will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:00 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. There are no calling hours. The family will greet guests at the conclusion of the funeral mass. Those so wishing may make donations to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Utica in Judi’s memory.
