Robert Jay Race, 49, of Moose River Rd., Port Leyden, passed away at his home, February 16, 2010. Robert was born in New Hartford, New York, December 13, 1960, the son of Robert and Jean (Cox) Race. He was raised and educated in Utica School Systems and Was a graduate of JFK. He joined the United States Navy in 1978 serving until 1993, he later attend Canisius in Buffalo. Robert was a proud, disabled Navy Veteran. He was a member of the DAV, a member of the Kenmore American Legion and was of the Methodist faith. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing & hunting. Bob is survived by his mother, Jean of Utica; his son, Robert J. Race Jr., of Tennessee; five sisters, Cheryl (Race) Case of Utica, Deborah Race of Buffalo, Barbara Race of Buffalo, Colleen (Race) Martin and her husband Dennis of Evansville, IN and Kelly Race of Boston, MA; four nieces, Megan & Emily Case and Maureen and Claire Martin. He also leaves his beloved dog Cookie. He was predeceased by his father, Robert. Mr. Races' funeral service, with the Reverend Marilyn Biasi officiating, will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 4pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Visitation at the funeral home will be held from 2 to 4, prior to his service. His burial will be at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be appreciated to the Lewis County Humane Society.
