Mr. John Ray Goracy, 74 of Clinton passed away on Sunday February 7, 2010 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford after a brief illness with his loving family by his side. John was born in Utica on August 12, 1935 the son of John and Mary V. (Majka) Goracy and received his education in local schools. He honorably served in the US Air Force from 1954-1957. On May 2, 1959 John married Helen Baran at St. Mary's Church in NY Mills. For 33 Years, John was employed with the US Government retiring in 1990. For over 30 years John was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica and was currently a parishioner of St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Utica. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending time on his boat on Oneida Lake. He also enjoyed playing poker and more importantly beating his sisters when he played poker with them. Mr. Goracy is survived by his beloved wife Helen; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Trisha Goracy of Clinton, Stephen and Tina Goracy of Yorkville and Raymond and Stacey Goracy of New Hartford; two sisters, Jean Goracy of Whitesboro and Mary Ann Malachowski of Yorkville; 8 cherished grandchildren, Stephen, Alyssa, Raeonna, Devin, Jenee and her husband Ron, Michael, Jason and Brianna: four adored great grandchildren, Kylie, Michael Joseph, Kylie and Tyler and one brother-in-law, John Baran of Rome. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel S. Goracy on January 2, 2009 and sister Anita M. O'Lite on February 11, 2009. Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Goracy's memorial mass of Christian burial on Wednesday February 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Utica. There are no calling hours. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville will take place at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica.
