James "Jim" E. Sawyer, 59, of Utica, formerly of Queens, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center. Jim was born in Queens, NY on Decemeber 13, 1950, the son of Frederick and Genevieve (Yankowski) Sawyer. He was raised and educated in Queens, graduating from Arch Bishop Malloy High School. Jim was employed with Sears Department Store in New Hartford. On June 13, 1981, Jim married Helen Yen at St. Columba Church in New York City, NY. He was of the Catholic faith. Jim is survived by his wife, Helen Sawyer, Utica; two daughters, Amy and Jessica Sawyer, both of Utica; two sons, Frank and Steve Correa, both of Utica; two stepchildren, Thomas Wong and his wife, Sherry, and Angela Wong and her family; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Joseph Lenau, Bay Shore, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Frederick M. and Darlene Sawyer, West Babylon, NY. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A Memorial Service for Mr. Sawyer will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 6:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica with Rev. Anthony LaFache presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4 - 6 pm prior to the service. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
