Mrs. Gladys P. Philo, 80 of Clark Mills, NY formerly of Sunset Ave, Utica passed away Thursday December 3, 2009 at her home. Gladys was born in Utica on November 10, 1929 the daughter of Leon and Alice Caras. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On September 25, 1948 Gladys married Eli Charles Philo, Jr., a union of 44 years until Eli's death in 1992. At one time, she was employed with General Electric Company. Gladys was a member of the North Utica Senior Center, enjoyed bus trips to the casino to play bingo and had a love for animals, especially cats. Mrs. Philo is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Valerie Philo of Clark Mills; four grandchildren, Jason Rovou of California, Andrew Rovou of Utica, Ryan Philo of Clark Mills and Ashley Philo of Clark Mills; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Philo of Remsen and Mary Lou DiSalvo of Holland Patent and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Theodore Rovou, one sister, Helen Delia and one brother, Joseph Caras. Mrs. Philo's funeral will be held on Sunday December 6, 2009 at 5:00 p. m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday evening from 3:00-5:00 prior to the service.
