Nancy H. Thackrah, 67, of Barneveld, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, New Hartford. Nancy was born in Utica on May 18, 1942, the daughter of Raymond and Virginia (Hagel) Hughes. She was raised and educated in Holland Patent. In 1969, Nancy married Richard Thackrah, and they made their home in South Trenton. Nancy worked for Bonide Products for many years, eventually retiring to spend time with her cherished grandsons. She was a member of South Trenton Presbyterian Church. As a young woman, she taught Sunday school and was a member of the church choir. Nancy enjoyed fishing, playing cards with friends and family, and most of all enjoyed every minute spent with her grandsons. Nancy is survived by her longtime companion, Edward Wurz, Barneveld; her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Lance Ketchum, Barneveld; her two grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan Ketchum; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marge and Francis Kogut, Holland Patent, Jane and Mike Brescia, Florida; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Raymond Hughes, Connecticut, David and Roberta Hughes, Poland, NY. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Ms. Thackrah's funeral service will be held Tuesday evening, November 17, 2009 at 6:00 pm at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica with Pastor Laurie Percival Pauley presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4 - 6 pm prior to the service. Interment in St. Peter's Cemetery, N. Utica, will take place on Wednesday at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to the American Cancer Society in Nancy's memory.
