Obituary of John W. Vivyan

John W. Vivyan, 91, of Blossvale passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital. John was born in Schuyler on March 8, 1918 the son of Gordon and Clara (Shilze) Vivyan. He received his education at the Schuyler District #1 School and later graduated from Utica Free Academy. For 22 years John was employed with the Hathaway Bakery in Utica retiring in 1963, then for 25 years he was employed at the Verona Hotel in Verona retiring from there in 1987. He was a member of St. Mark's Church, North Utica, original member and past officer of the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department, and original member and past officer of the Valley Merchants Athletic Club. John was also a member of the Schuyler Bicentennial Committee and the Mohawk Valley Umpires Association. John is survived by his best friend of 61 years Jack Houser, Blossvale, his brother and sister-in-law; Gordon and Margaret Vivyan, Ilion, five special nieces and nephews with whom he resided throughout his lifetime, Thomas and Ann Bush, Verona, Gordon and Jill Bush, Schuyler, Fran and Bill Connors, Schuyler, Ray and Cathy Bush, Ilion and Robert and Rebecca Richvalsky, Jordanville. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. John was predeceased by brothers and sisters, William Vivyan, Mott Vivyan, Theresa Bush, and Mary Jane Denz. Mr. Vivyan's funeral will be held on Thursday November 12, 2009 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd. North Utica, and at 10:00 at St. Mark's Church, North Utica. Burial will be in West Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday (Today) from 5 - 8 pm. John's wish is that flowers are omitted. Instead he asks that you say "a little prayer" for him. Those so wishing may make donations to the American Cancer Society.
