Doris M. Norton, 91, of the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center and formerly of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Doris was born in Syracuse, NY on October 28, 1926, a daughter of Richard and Loretta (Burch) Kelly. On October 14, 1970 Doris was united in marriage to George E. Norton, Jr., a blessed union of 18 years until his death on February 2, 1989. For many years she was employed with the Patterson–Wilde Shipping Co., in Boston, MA. Doris was a member of St. Mark’s Church, N. Utica and a former member of St. Mary’s Church, Utica. Doris is survived by her daughter, Christine Barnes, of Deerfield, two grandchildren, Kelly Garner and husband, James, of Rochester and Paul Barnes and wife, Jennifer, of Frankfort, four great grandchildren, Sydney Garner, Norah Garner, Caleb Barnes and Declan Barnes. Doris was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Ryan and two brothers, George Kelly and Richard Kelly. Mrs. Norton’s funeral will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10:00 at St. Mark’s Church, N. Utica. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Those so wishing may make donations to the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired or to the Humane Society in Doris’ memory.
