Helen C. Nougeim, 78, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Abraham House in Utica. Helen was born in Whitesboro on June 1, 1931, the daughter of Boleslaw and Mary (Macner) Cieslak. She was raised and educated locally. On July 14, 1950, Helen married Louis T. Nougeim in Utica. Mr. Nougeim passed away in 2007. Helen worked in the office of her husband's business, Empire Paving Company in Utica. She was a member of the Parkway Senior Center and had many hobbies including cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlework, and gardening. Helen was of the Catholic faith. Helen is survived by a daughter and her companion, Christine Nougeim and Hawley Zwahlen, Latham, NY; a son-in-law, Thomas Pflanz, Vernon; a granddaughter and her husband, Sarah and Brett Smith, Vernon; four great grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, Aiden, and Caitlynn Smith, all of Vernon; a brother, Ed Klenka, CA. Besides her husband, Helen is predeceased by her daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Thomas) Pflanz; three sisters, Mary Jaskolka, Lottie Miner, and Bertha Levendowski; three brothers, Chester, John, and Henry Kleaka. Funeral services for Mrs. Nougeim will be held on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 11:30 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 - 11:30 am, prior to the funeral service.
