Maryrose “Opie” Rubin, 38, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a brief illness, with her loving family by her side. Maryrose was born in New Hartford on June 17, 1979, the beloved daughter of Shelly and Maryrose (Walsh) Rubin. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. Maryrose is survived by her parents, Shelly and Maryrose of Deerfield; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Michael Rubin and Dr. John and Kimberly Rubin; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Colleen and John Falbo, Betsy and Jim Kurdziolek, Mary-Kathleen and Sheldon Stoddard and Margaret-Mary “Mackie” Rubin; one uncle, William R. Keeler; her boyfriend, Christopher Douglas as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her infant son, Xavier Christopher, maternal grandparents, The Honorable John J. and Mary Walsh, paternal grandparents, Joseph and Ruth Rubin and an uncle Michael Walsh (for whom the Notre Dame High School Gym was named). Relatives and friends are invited to Maryrose’s memorial Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of the memorial Mass. Those wishing to make a donation in Opie’s memory, please choose a charity of your choice. Opie’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Emergency room, ICU and 3A for the outstanding care, love and compassion you showed to Opie and her family.
