Ruth E. Fay, 93, a resident of Heritage Health Care Center, formerly of Oriskany, NY and Largo, FL, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the nursing home. Ruth was born in Clark Mills on December 24, 1915, the daughter of Fred and Edith (Leach) Hemming. She was raised and educated in Clark Mills. On July 10, 1933, Ruth married George P. Fay in Westmoreland. Ruth was employed by H. Waterbury & Sons for thirty years until her retirement in 1976, at which time she moved to Florida. She stayed in Largo for twenty-eight years before returning in June of 2004. Ruth was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Oriskany. Ruth is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Donald Oakley, Oriskany; a daughter-in-law, Nancy (Mrs. Ronald) Fay, Oriskany; a sister, Eleanor Abbe, Rome. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and several great, great grandchildren. Ruth is predeceased by her husband George, by her son, Ronald and by two brothers, Bernard and Fred Hemming. Mrs. Fay's funeral will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Whitesboro, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, on Thursday morning from 9 - 10 am, prior to the Funeral Mass. Those wishing may donate to the American Diabetes Association or to the Ronald G. Fay Memorial Scholarship Fund in Ruth's memory. Ruth's family extend their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of Heritage Health Care Center for the care and compassion given to Ruth and her family during her stay.
