Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The Lord has placed Frank into the arms of his loving wife, Eleanor Gill, and his son, Michael, on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Their souls will meet and join as they walk in God's Light forever. Frank was born in Utica on October 10, 1928, the son of John and Mary Wentka. He was raised and educated locally. Frank was educated at Sacred Heart School, Lower New York Mills, and Whitesboro Central School. He went on to attend Mohawk Valley Community College and Elizabeth Street Technical School, as well as many seminars he attended for General Electric. Frank served his country as a Corporal in the US Army, one year stateside, and one year in Germany during the Korean War. (Whenever he heard the Star Spangled Banner, it brought tears to his eyes.) On November 4, 1950, Frank married Eleanor Gill in St. Francis de Sales Church, Utica. Mrs. Wentka passed away in 2002. Frank was employed with General Electric in Utica. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Frank is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Mitchell, and her two children, Melissa and Michelle, Utica; his son, Mark Wentka, his wife, Elisa Sarcona, and their children, Drew, Leah, and Craig, Huntington, NY; his sister, Jane Wentka, Utica; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a dear friend and companion, Joanne Cichon, Utica, and her children. Frank will be meeting his family in heaven, his parents, John and Mary Wentka, his brothers, William, Adolph, Edward, and Stanley; his sisters, Viola, Josephine Cieplenski, Helen Gates, Caroline Girdauskas and Stefano. Frank's funeral will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 9:30 am at St. Peter's Church in North Utica where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica, Friday evening, from 4 - 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Frank's memory. "Thanks to all my friends from General Electric, Golfing, Bowling, The American Legion in Holland Patent, Knights of Columbus, American Society of Safety Engineers, 1978, 79 Marcy Youth Girls Softball Team, North Utica Senior Center, and Elderlife, Yorkville. Thanks for all the hours of sporting events presented by the colleges, American Legion Baseball, high schools and the Utica Blue Sox. Thanks to my entire family and two special friends, John Czerw and Robert Wittman. I must also mention the tender and compassionate care received from Faxton, St. Luke's, and St. Elizabeth's Hospitals during stays. Thanks to the doctors, skilled surgeons, and especially to the kind and thoughtful nurses and staffs. Goodbye to all, I will be going on a good and glorious trip."
