Obituary of Helen Jonquil

Mrs. Helen Jonquil, 99 of Utica died Sunday July 26, 2009 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford with her loving family by her side. Helen was born September 20, 1909 in Rome, Italy the daughter of Salvatore and Mary (Pacific) Mozzetti. She came to the United States with her parents as a young girl and received her education in local schools. On December 17, 1927 Helen married Nicholas Jonquil at Mt. Carmel Church in Utica a blessed union of 60 years until Nicholas' death in 1987. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of The Rosary Church in New Hartford, was an excellent cook, loved to sing Italian songs and along with her husband was an avid traveler, especially to Florida. She enjoyed the summer camp at Sylvan Beach and Utica was especially enjoyable when the "golden girls" (Helen and her sisters Angeline and Peggy) were together. Helen had a deep love and devotion to her family. She was a kind and thoughtful person always ready to help anyone who needed it. Mrs. Jonquil is survived by her son, Anthony (Shuggy) Jonquil, of Sylvan Beach; beloved grandchildren, Doreen Monroe of Utica, Elida Dapre of Utica, Debbie Jonquil of Utica, Nicky Jonquil of NY Mills, Aleda Amlee and her husband Eric of Greenfield, MA, Jenny Hale and her husband Edward of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Ricky Goding of Verona, NY; brother, Dominick Mozzetti of Utica; daughter-in-law, Carla Jonquil of Utica and several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, niece and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Nicholas (Junior) Jonquil, Jr., who was killed in the Korean War in 1951, and Richard Jonquil, two sisters, Angeline DelMonte and Peggy LoConti, four brothers, John, Tony, James and Sammy Mozzetti, and daughter-in-law, Betty Jonquil. Mrs. Jonquil's funeral will be held on Wednesday July 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Rosary Church, Burrstone Rd., New Hartford where her mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yorkville. There are no calling hours. Those wishing to make a donation in Helen's memory please do so to a charity of your choice. We love you Grandma. We will miss you dearly. We will see you again.
