Dawn (Dawnski) K. Sroka, 52, of Windfall Rd., Utica, passed away at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, July 23, 2009, after a long illness. Dawn was born in Utica, NY, January 8, 1957, the daughter of John and Sophie (Topi) Bosco. She was raised and educated in the Whitesboro School system, graduating in 1975. She also attended college at HCCC. On June 29, 1985, in Marcy, NY, Dawn was married to Donald S. Sroka. For a number of years until her illness, she was employed at Loretto Utica Center as a Human Resource Asst. Her former employer was with the Masonic Home of Utica. Dawn was of the Catholic faith. She was an associate member of the Schuyler V.F.W.; she was also a volunteer with the Family Advocacy Center. Dawn enjoyed camping, was enthusiastic about her writing, loved music and her pets. Dawn is survived by her husband, Don; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Karen and David Williams, of New York Mills, Diane and Bob VanDusen, of Schuyler; her best friend and chosen sister, Lisa Cherenzia, of Schuyler; she also leaves seven nieces and four nephews. Dawn is also survived by her canine pals, Cider and Gizmo and her feline friends, Charcoal and Precott. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Wayne Bosco. Dawn's funeral will be held Monday, July 27, 2009, at 9:30 at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Her burial will take place in West Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday evening from 4-7. Her family would like to make a special thank you to Dr. Heckman and his staff at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, for all their care and kindness to Dawn and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dawn's memory will be appreciated to the American Cancer Society or the Steven-Swan Humane Society.
