Carole B. Podkowka, 80, a resident of the Martin Luther Home, formerly of Clinton, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center. Carole was born in Utica on December 1, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Bastardi) Fatata. She was raised and educated locally. In 1942, Carole married John Podkowka in Utica. Mr. Podkowka passed away in 2008. She worked for Globe Mills and later for General Electric before becoming the owner and operator of the Deerfield Golf Range with her husband. Carole is survived by two granddaughters, Tracy and her husband, Tim Derr, Chattanooga, TN, Shelly Podkowka McNamara, Miami, FL; five great grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, and Kristen Acquaviva, Clinton, Desiree Hughes and Patrick McNamara, Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Sam and Pauline Fatata, North Utica. She is predeceased by her son, John Robert Podkowka in 1993, and by her daughter-in-law, Gail Marie Riddell, in 1992. Mrs. Podkowka's funeral service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yorkville. There are no calling hours. Those wishing may donate to the American Cancer Society in Carole's memory.
