Obituary of James F. Tobin

Mr. James F. Tobin, Sr., 69 of Utica passed away on Tuesday July 14, 2009 at the Hospice Siegenthaler Center in New Hartford. James was born in Utica on September 21, 1939 the son of Frank and Anne (Hargreaves) Tobin. He was raised locally and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On September 9, 1967 James married Stella S. Bendura at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Utica. For many years, he was employed as a plumber and pipe fitter with Local 79 and 112 retiring in 1984. He was vice president and an executive board member of local 79 and a trustee of the pension and welfare board and the apprenticeship program of Local 79. James was a committeeman and chairman with the Democratic Party 2nd district and a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting and fishing. Mr. Tobin is survived by his beloved wife Stella; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kimberly and Stephen Battaglia of New Hartford and Kelly Tobin and her boy friend, Michael Monile, of Buffalo; two sons and daughters-in-law, James, Jr. and Terese Tobin of Rochester and Francis and Rebecca Tobin of Newport, NY; 6 cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Caroline, Jenna, Julia, Riley and Bridget; one sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Paul West of Whitesboro; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Molly Tobin of Utica; his aunt, Irene Carknard of Watervliet, NY; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Barbara Synek of Utica, Susie Senizk of Utica, Philip Laskowski of TN and Mary Konyak of Yorkville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Tobin's funeral will be held on Saturday July 18, 2009 ay 10:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and 11:00 at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church, Utica where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., in James' memory.
