Obituary of Harold Earl Woodward

Mr. Harold Earl Woodward, 64 of Rome, NY passed away on Wednesday June 24, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Harold was born in Utica on December 26, 1944 the son of Earl and Winifred M. (Emery) Woodward. He was raised in Utica and attended Utica Free Academy. In October 1972, Harold married Jane Zacharko in Marcy, NY. Harold was employed as a tool and dye maker with Bossert Manufacturing Company, later with Bendix Corporation, Lucas Aerospace and most recently with Goodrich Corporation in Rome. He was the former owner and operator of Dick Smiths Tavern in Utica for over 20 years. Harold enjoyed working, fishing and received the greatest joy from golfing with his son and grandson. He was of the catholic faith. Mr. Woodward is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Harold, Jr. and Deborah Woodward, of Lake Park GA and his mother Jane Woodward of Valdosta, GA; four cherished grandchildren, Nicole, attending College at the University of Florida in Gainesville and Kimberly, Michael and Arianna all of Lake Park, GA; Survivors also include, Betty and Tim Parston of TX, Lynn and Sam Asfur of FL and Jim Dodge of GA; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Jeanne Schmidt and her husband Herbert of Oriskany, NY, Joan (Beauchamp) Morgan and her husband Tom of Ohio, NY and Peter Parsons of FL; friends, Kathy and Jessie and their daughter Courtney and Carol and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Earl and Winifred, a sister Joyce Parsons and Robert Dodge. Mr. Woodward's funeral will be held on Saturday June 27, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 11:00 at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Whitesboro where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to leaving for Church. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Harold please consider the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, "Team Winnie" in honor of Harold's mother Winifred. A heartfelt thank you to Harold's nephew, Patrick Christmas for the loving care and support you have provided to Harold and our entire family. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. Also a special thank you to the staff on 3B at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the wonderful care you provided to Harold.
