Jason Anthony Spina, 26, of North Utica, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care with his father by his side. Jason was born in Utica on February 10, 1983, the son of Anthony J. and Sandra (Schultz) Spina. He was a 2001 graduate of Proctor High School, a 2004 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College, where he received two AAS Degrees, and a 2007 graduate of SUNYIT, where he received a BS Degree. Jason was self-employed as a web designer. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Jason was an avid sports fan, deriving great enjoyment from all sports. He especially favored baseball, with the NY Mets being his favorite team. Jason had a lifelong collection of baseball cards and autographed baseballs. Jason is survived by his parents, Anthony and Sandy Spina of North Utica; his sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer Spina Wambsgan and Joseph Wambsgan; and his nephew and godson, Nicholas Wambsgan, all of Stafford, Virginia; his maternal grandmother, Harriet Schultz of Utica; a great aunt, Jessie Gubala, and a great uncle, Stanley Gubala, with whom Jason was particularly close; his uncles and aunts, Salvatore Spina, John Spina, Sandra Westbrook, and Jeffrey and Catherine Schultz; special cousins Bill and Milly Reed; and many other cousins and close friends, including Ernie and Judy DeCola. Jason's funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 9:15 am from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica, and at 10:00 am from St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 pm. Those wishing to do so, may make donations to the Children's Miracle Network in Jason's memory.
