Mrs. Alene (Lee) T. Coupe, 93, a resident of the Utica area was called home to the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday May 30, 2009. Alene was born in Rome NY on November 10, 1915 the daughter of Christian and Marie Rose (Weismuller) Stukey. She was raised and educated locally earning a nursing degree. In 1945, Alene married Walter R. Coupe at St. Patrick's Church in Utica. For many years, she was employed with St. Joseph's Infant Home in Utica and for 20 years as cook and housekeeper with St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church rectory in Whitesboro. Alene provided foster care for 18 years, taking in over 300 infants, lovingly and compassionately caring for each child as if they were her own. She was a very giving person who had a unique ability to make everyone she encountered feel special and cared about. Alene enjoyed baking, crocheting and most importantly providing enjoyable holiday gatherings. Her life was centered around her family whom she cared for and nurtured with her whole heart. She had a belief that people should "love generously, care deeply, speak Kindly and lived that motto throughout her life. Mrs. Coupe is survived by two beloved daughters and one son-in-law, Christine Coupe of Freeville, NY and Clare Ann and Charles Rieben of Remsen and Marcy; sister-in-law, Audrey Stukey of Stittville; numerous nieces and nephews, especially, Heidi Schott and her husband Scott of New Castle, ME and Bradley Stukey of Stittville and her very special feline companion, Pudtat. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 2007, two sisters and four brothers. Mrs. Coupe's funeral will be held on Wednesday June 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery in Stittville, NY.
