Mr. Raymond G. Zimmer, 85 of Syracuse, formerly of Utica and Kayuta Lake passed away on Thursday May 21, 2009 at Community General Hospital in Syracuse with his loving family by his side. Raymond was born in Utica on February 29, 1924 the son of George and Laura (Emery) Zimmer. He was raised locally, was a graduate of Whitesboro High School and Colorado State Teachers College. Raymond honorably served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II and was responsible for repairing damaged sheet metal on the planes. On May 24, 1947, Raymond married Lois Smith at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Whitesboro. For many years he was employed as purchasing agent and inside sales manager with Alling & Cory Printing and Industrial Paper Supply Company in Utica retiring in 1979. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Syracuse and a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Utica and St. Patrick's Church in Boonville. He was also a member of American Legion Post 1113, Whitesboro, was an avid fisherman and bowler and served as secretary of his bowling league. Mr. Zimmer is survived by his beloved wife Lois; four daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and James Rumbutis of Yorkville, Deborah and Lawrence Gross of Indianapolis, IN, Laurie and Glenn Sparling of Syracuse and Michele and Frederick Weigel of Frankfort; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Cynthia Zimmer of Syracuse; one sister, Shirley Wardle of Tonapah, NV; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Zimmer's funeral will be held on Tuesday May 26, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, 422 Coventry Ave, Utica where his mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday 4:00-7:00 p.m. For those wishing to make a donation in Raymond's memory, please consider the Bernardines Apartments Residence Fund, C/O Glenn Sparling 5005 Horizon Terrace Syracuse, NY 13215. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday May 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Our lady of Lourdes Church at 300 Valley Dr. Syracuse, NY. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
