Amelia P. Serio, 91, of the St. Luke's Home and formerly of North Utica, passed away Thursday May 14, 2009, with her loving family by her side. Amelia was born in New Hartford on November 17, 1917, the daughter of the late Raffaelo and Maria (Moodzi) Forgione. At St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica, on November 20, 1941, Amelia married Vito Nicholas Serio, a blessed union until his passing in 1989. Amelia was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Amelia's two loves were traveling, having traveled all over the world and listening to opera. Amelia also enjoyed gardening and cooking and treasured the many family get togethers especially during the holidays. The love Amelia put into her holiday meals will always be remembered by her family. Amelia is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth DiCamillo, Whitesboro, NY and Dolores and James Landers, El Cajon, CA., two sons and daughters-in-law, Vito and Angel Serio, Balston Lake, NY and Nicholas and Ginny Serio, Ogdensburg, NY, 10 grandchildren, James, Deanna, Patrick, Brian, Mark D. Michael, Mark C. Angel, Marisa and Carlo, one sister, Julie Degni, Utica , a sister-in-law, Angeline Camardo, New Hartford, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Angela Kojac, Virginia Fierro, and Carmella DeGrace. Mrs. Serio's funeral will be held on Tuesday May 19, 2009, at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica, and at 10:00 from St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 5 - 8. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make donations to the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the Deerfield Family Practice: Dr. Joseph Booth, Wendy Travis and Kelly Weaver, to her faithful Thursday Teammate, MaryAnn and to the nursing staff of the St. Luke's Home. They are forever grateful to Amelia's niece and husband, Angela and Jim Brooks, for all their help and support at the nursing home.
