Mr. Edward M. Shannon, 96 of Utica passed away Wednesday May 13, 2009 at his home. Edward was born in Utica on February 13, 1913 the son of John A. and Winifred (Elwood) Shannon. He was raised locally and was a graduate of NY Mills high school. On July 24, 1937 Edward married Estelle H. Topor in Suffrin, NY a union of 51 years until Estelle's death in 1986. For many years until his retirment, Edward was employed with Mohawk Dental Supply Company. He was a parishioner of the Church of The Sacred Heart and St. Mary's in NY Mills and the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica. Edward was a 72 year member of Knights of Columbus Utica Council 189, was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading. Mr. Shannon is survived by his two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathleen and Frank Muraca of Liverpool, NY and Deborah Taylor and her companion Jim Lesniak of Utica; eight grandchildren, Walter Muraca, Christopher Muraca, Thomas Taylor, David Taylor, Peter Emery, Jr., Paul Emery, Jeannette Emery, Patrick Emery, Kimberly Shannon and Michael Shannon; one sister, Thelma Saad of Buffalo and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Edward M. Shannon, Jr. and his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Emery. Mr. Shannon's funeral will be held on Friday May 15, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday 11:00-1:00 prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make a donation in Edwards name may consider the Visiting Nurses Association or Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.
