Obituary of Anthony P. Saccoia

Anthony Peter Saccoia, 78, of North Utica, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the St Joseph's Rehabilitation Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Anthony was born in Utica, NY on February 23, 1931, the son of Anthony B and Angeline (Perri) Saccoia. He was raised and attended local schools in East Utica. Anthony proudly served in the US Army National Guard (during 1951-53) and later joining the 331st USAR General Hospital, where he later retired from the Army Reserves in 1991. On May 22, 1953, Anthony married Margaret Ragonese in Utica. For 24 years, he was employed with General Electric on Utica, NY until retiring in 1979. He then later worked for the Utica School System as a School Aide for many years. Anthony was a member of the North Utica American Legion Post #229 for over 20 years, Deerfield Gun and Rifle Club for many years. He also enjoyed volunteering during elections, helping at the polls. Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Margaret, New Hartford; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Ted Potaczala, Utica; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ross and Sherry Saccoia, Wisconsin; Scott Saccoia, Utica; Anthony and Elaine Saccoia, Utica; nine grand children, Stacey and JC Lamantia, New Hartford; Ted III and Michelle Potaczala, Utica; Michael, Cala, Danyelle, Ross Jr., Christina, Lisa, and Matthew; one special great grandson, Thad IV; one brother, Sam Saccoia, Deerfield. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as his canine companion, Peanuts. Anthony is predeceased by three sisters and a brother, Jean Porcelli, Rose Boguski, Helen Shafer, and Joseph Saccoia. Mr. Saccoia's funeral will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Peter's Church, North Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica on Monday, from 4 - 7 pm.
