Mr. Robert A. Burns, 81, a resident of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, New Hartford, formerly of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the nursing home. Bob was born in Clinton on June 7, 1927, the son of Patrick and Mary (Ellis) Burns. He was raised in Clinton and was a graduate of Clinton High School. On June 14, 1952, Bob married Elizabeth Maxwell in Clinton. For several years he was employed with Lincoln Laundry and later Tri-State Industrial Laundry, retiring as plant supervisor. Bob was a member of St. Mary's Church, Clinton, Clinton Volunteer Fire Department and Kirkland Senior Citizens. An avid outdoorsman, Bob had a true passion for gardening. He also enjoyed traveling and was always "on the go". In his later years he filled his free time watching all sporting events. Mr. Burns is survived by his beloved wife, Betty of New Hartford; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane Wenzel of Waterville, Cynthia and Dan Freudenberger of Utica, and Susan and Nic Suders of Yorkville; one son, Michael Burns of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four cherished grandchildren, Josh Wenzel and his fiancée, Lindsay Bassett, Ben Wenzel, Lisa Suders and Ann Suders. He also leaves a son-in-law, Doug Wenzel of Clinton; two sisters, Joan Burns, and Carol Zasa and her husband, Rocco of Utica; two brothers, William E. and his wife, Leta Burns of New Hartford, and Lawrence and his wife, Emiko Burns of New Hartford; four sisters-in-law, Sr. Dorothy Maxwell, Sarah Ness and her husband, Mike, Dorothy Burns, and Jacquie Maxwell; one brother-in-law, Gilbert Condon; and several nieces, nephews and many good friends. He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Vincent, Patrick, Michael, and Thomas Burns; a brother-in-law, Joseph Maxwell; and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Condon. Mr. Burns' funeral will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 8:15 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 E. Park Row, Clinton, and 9:30 at St. Mary's Church, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired or The Parkinson's Unit at the Presbyterian Home in Bob's memory. Bob's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Elm Wing at The Presbyterian Home, Dr. Robert Burke and his staff, and staff of Central New York Cardiology for the wonderful care you provided to our loved one.
