Obituary of Nona A. O'Hara

Nona A. O'Hara, 90, of Clinton, formerly of Marathon, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Siegenthaler Center, with her son, Tom, at her side. Nona was born September 1, 1918 in Whitney Point, NY, the daughter of Francis and Margaret (Robertson) Driscoll. She was raised, educated, and in 1947, married to Richard O'Hara, in Whitney Point. With her husband, Nona owned and operated O'Hara's Grill in Marathon, NY for over 40 years, retiring in 1980. Richard passed away in 1998. Nona was a "behind-the-scenes" member of the Marathon Fire Department, the Lions Club, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Marathon Maple Festive as well as most other community activities. After her retirement, Nona enjoyed quilting and visiting friends. She raised most every adult in town at her family restaurant. Nona was a loving person and was dedicated to caring for everyone else, and never asking for herself. She was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Marathon and after moving to the Clinton area, became a member of St. Mary's Church. Nona will be best remembered her new friends in Clinton by her soft smile to all and by Tom's friends - whom she opened her home and camp to, over the past thirty years. Nona is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas F. O'Hara, with whom she resided in Clinton, John R. and Virginia O'Hara, Virginia, two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia O'Hara-Corbett and her husband, Matt, Texas, Marlene O'Hara-Saliba and her husband, Paul Saliba, Long Island, NY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael, Katie, John, Kaitlyn, Jesse, Adam, and Joshuah. Nona is predeceased by two brothers, John and William Driscoll and one sister, Helen Braman. Nona also had many nieces and nephews, especially Pam, Gail, John and Dawn. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 6 - 7 pm. A memorial service for Nona will take place at 7:00 pm at the funeral home immediately following the visitation. Services will continue in Marathon, NY on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church. Visitation will take place from 9:30 - 11:00 am with her Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00 am. Interment in Marathon Cemetery, will take place in the summer. Nona's family would like to share thanks to the entire staff of Slocum-Dickson Medical group who cared for Nona like a grandmother- giving her loving medical care. To our special friends Joan, Lisa, and Carolyn who cared for Nona while she was at her new home in Clinton. And a loving thanks to all of the angels of the Hospice- Siegenthaler Center, who cared for both Tom and Nona in her final days.
