Gertrude M. Manley, a resident of the Folts Home, Herkimer passed away on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. Gertrude was born in Clark Mills, NY a daughter of Frederick and Mary (Walsh) Donahue. In 1932 at Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica she married John A. Manley a blessed union of 40 years until his passing in 1972. For many years Gertrude was employed at the Utica State Hospital. She was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica and a former member of the Altar Rosary Society of the church and the Margaret Knamm Senior Center. Gertrude is survived by a son; Dr. John F. Manley and wife Kathy Sharp, Westport, CT, a son-in-law; Alfred McCarthy, Dolgeville,, six grandchildren; Dr. Michael McCarthy and wife Maureen, Mason, OH, Shelley Scarano and husband Rock, Little Falls, John McCarthy, Little Falls, John Manley, CA, Laura Manley, CA and Cole Manley, CT, nine great grandchildren; Kelly and Jacob Scarano, both of Little Falls, Andrew, Ryan and Tyler McCarthy, all of OH, Kainan and Kaitlyn McCarthy both of Mohawk, and Kyle and Jenna Manley both of CA, and a great great granddaughter; Ava Marie Grcic, Little Falls. Gertrude was predeceased by her daughter; Carol M. McCarthy in 1994. Mrs. Manley's funeral will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 9:30 from Historic Old St. John's Church, Utica. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton, NY. There are no calling hours. Those so wishing may make donations to the Folts Home or the Humane Society in Gertrude's memory. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for the care and comfort they have shown to their mother and grandmother through this difficult time and to the staff of the Folts Home where Gertrude has lived for the last eight years. Thank you for all your love and extraordinary care given to her. You are all as much as part of her family as we are.
