Marion I. Van Hatten, 89, of Marcy, passed away March 23, 2018 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Marion was born July 4, 1928, daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Morgan) Van Etten. She was united in marriage on November 29, 1947, to Raymond Van Hatten at St. Joseph’s Church, Utica, N.Y., a blessed union of 65 years, until his passing in 2012. She was educated in Whitesboro Schools, and enjoyed working in the school cafeteria’s many years ago. Her main job over the years, was mother to her 7 children, grandmother to her 16 grandchildren and great grandmother to her 17 great grandchildren, and caregiver to many relatives and friends. In addition, Ray and Marion’s door was always open to anyone in need of their care. She was a past president of the Marcy Senior Citizens for 8 years, a member of the Maynard United Methodist Church, and a member of the Maynard Fire Department Auxiliary. Everyone could always count on enjoying Marion’s fresh baked goods on any given day. Marion and Ray loved camping for many years, especially with their many friends at Cedar Point Campground on the St. Lawrence River. Marion is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Scharbach and her husband Stephen; sons, Gary and his wife, Donna; Patrick and his wife Patricia; Richard and his wife, Sharon; Timothy and his wife Theresa; Edward and his wife Lori; and Paul and his wife Melissa. Marion also leaves her grandchildren and their spouses– Scott, David and John Van Hatten, Paul and Thomas Scharbach, Kristie Van Hatten, Lori Molloy, Amy Van Hatten-Brennan, Keri Roys, Sean and Shane Van Hatten, Rachel Cosamano, Jenna, Travis and Joleen Van Hatten, and Allison Van Hatten. She also leaves behind 17 special great grandchildren, a brother, Howard Van Etten, a sister Vivian Smolinsky and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray, her brothers, Bernard, Harry, William, Gordon, Lester, Edward, and one sister Helen Hall. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Heintz Funeral Home at 408 Herkimer Road in North Utica. Calling hours are from 1:00 - 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 25th, and the funeral service will be held on Monday, March 26th at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Maynard United Methodist Church, 9626 Maynard Drive, Marcy, N.Y. 13403 or the Maynard Fire Department Auxiliary, 9500 Maynard Drive, Marcy, N.Y. 13403.
