Obituary of John B. Sharpe

John B. Sharpe, 75, of Utica passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 in St. Luke's Hospital. John was born in Utica on December 24, 1933 the son of the late Henry and Caroline (Freitas) Sharpe. He was a 1951 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. At Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica on April 4, 1959 he married Carol Ann Miller. For 35 years until his retirement in 1990 John was employed with the New York Telephone Co. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica, American Legion Post # 229, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Flub Dub Club. John enjoyed golfing and working around his yard. He especially enjoyed reminiscing about his trip to Alaska and always looked forward to going to Myrtle Beach. John is survived by his wife, Carol Ann, his son and daughter-in-law; Paul and Sue Sharpe, Marcy, his two daughters and sons-in-law; Karen and George Massarotti, Whitesboro and Lauren and Bill Vosburgh, Barneveld, three grandchildren; Liesel Vosburgh, Andrew Sharpe and Jamie Sharpe, three brothers and sisters-in-law; Alan and Dolores Sharpe, Utica, Thomas and Angela Sharpe, VA and Robert and Sue Sharpe, CT, and aunts and uncles; Jo Otto, Francis and Anne Freitas, and Helen Pawlinga. Mr. Sharpe's funeral will be held on Tuesday January 6, 2009 at 8:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 9:30 from St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-7. In lieu of flowers those so wishing may make donations to Hope House or a charity of your choice in John's memory. The family would like to thank Dr. A. Patel and the staff of 2E of St. Luke's Hospital for all the loving care they gave to John. To the boys of the syndicate, Ted, Joe, Frank, Sam and Bob, John won't make your next get together, but raise a beer in his memory.
