Frederick C. Dean Jr., 76, of North Utica passed away Friday, December 5, 2008 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Frederick was born in Utica on May 5, 1932 son of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Lukina) Dean, Sr. In Utica on November 5, 1955 Frederick married Betty Johnson. He Served in the navy during the Korean War. For many years until his retirement he was a firefighter for the City of Utica. After his retirement he was employed as a currier for Linda Kelsey. Fred always enjoyed going to Saratoga, playing cards, but received the most enjoyment whenever there was a family gathering. In his younger years he also enjoyed watching his son race motorcycles. Frederick is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, three sons and two daughters-in-law; Frederick Dean III, West Winfield, Jeffrey and Karen Dean, Utica and Darrin and Carol Dean, Whitesboro, eleven grandchildren; Kristy, Frederick IV and wife, Stacey, Ryan, Danielle Palmieri and husband, William, Zachary, Erick, Danielle, Kaitlyn and Brittney, three great grandchildren; Jason, Haley and Ryan, a sister; Beverly Jones, FL, an aunt; Lillian Brown, Utica, and in-laws; Norma McCabe, Remsen, and Robert and Amelia Johnson, FL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his canine companion; Deano. Frederick was predeceased by his granddaughter; Ashley. Mr. Dean's funeral service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-7. Burial in Crown Hill Memorial Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. Those so wishing may make donations to the Utica Fire Department in Frederick's memory. The family would like to thank the paramedics of the Utica Fire Department, Doctor's Jerry Sloan and Mark Blaker and the staff of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for all the loving care they gave to Frederick.
