James Pat' Fleming, 75, of Clinton, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, after a long illness. Pat was born in Westmoreland on December 10, 1932, the son of James F. and Lillian (Lamanski) Fleming. He was raised in Clark Mills and attended Westmoreland schools. Pat served his country with the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. On August 9, 1958, Pat married Joan M. Peterson in Utica. In his early years, he worked as a machinist for several area companies and later worked as a self employed cook. He retired as the steward and cook of the Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post 232 in Franklin Springs in 1998. Pat was a member and service officer at the American Legion Post 232; a member and past governor of the Rome Moose Lodge #901; and an avid bowling enthusiast of over 60 years, being involved in leagues in the Oriskany Falls, Clinton, and Utica areas. Pat was of the Roman Catholic faith. Pat is survived by two daughters, Ms. Karen A. Fleming, Rome, Ms. Mary Lou Fleming, Waterville; four sons, James F. Fleming, Oneida, David R. Fleming, Deansboro, Michael P. Fleming, Utica, John C. Fleming, Oneida; four granddaughters, Elisha, Melissa, Amanda, and Brandy; two great grandsons, Joshua, Jr., and Noah; one brother, Charles Fleming, Hamilton. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and close friends, including his special friend and companion, Dorothy Kenneally. Pat is predeceased by a grandson, James Fleming, and by a sister, Mary Norrs. Mr. Fleming's funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 10:00 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 10 East Park Row, Clinton with Rev. John Croghan officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. The Helmuth-Ingalls American Legion Post 232 family will conduct services in Pat's honor at 7:00 pm. Those wishing may donate to the American Cancer Society in Pat's memory.
