Ethel R. Magee, 86, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the Masonic Care Community. Ethel was born in Utica on November 25, 1921, the eldest daughter of Walter H. and Ethel (Kunze) Magee. She was raised and educated locally, graduating from Utica Catholic Academy, and later from St. Rose School of Nursing in Rochester. Ethel retired as night supervisor at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after 40 years of dedicated service, although she remained very active at the hospital as a volunteer. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica and their Alter Society, Womens Club, the Theresians, and Christ Church Society. She also belonged to the Volunteer's Retiree's Guild, the Franklin Club, the Elizabethian Society, and the Catholic Golden Age. Ethel was also an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis in Syracuse. Ethel is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose Mary and Robert Moran, New Hartford, Patricia Sheridan, Clinton; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Joan (Robinson) Magee, Cherry Hill, NJ; as well as by many nieces and nephews. Ethel is predeceased by her parents and by a brother-in-law, Robert Sheridan. Ethel Magee's funeral will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, Utica. Relatives and friends may call at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, on Sunday from 4 - 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate to Our Lady of Lourdes Church or to the Masonic Care Community in Ethel's memory. Ethel's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Albany Neighborhood of the Masonic Care Community for the excellent care and many kindnesses given to both Ethel and her family during her stay.
